Cooper’s deeply personal and politically charged work explores the complex identity of the white minority in South Africa and Zimbabwe, drawing on her own experience of life in Africa. A graduate with honours from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles (2004), she previously worked as darkroom printer for Lucien Clergue, co-founder of the Rencontres d’Arles. Cooper’s work has been exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe and L’Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Gemeentemuseum Helmond, and PhotoBrussels Festival 2025.

Her series 'White Africans: A Journey to the Homeland' delves into the lives of white communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe, offering a nuanced perspective on a subject often overlooked. Simoné and Oogies is a poignant piece from this series, capturing the essence of familial bonds and the complexities of cultural identity.

In 2013 Cooper was awarded the Photography prize by the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris ‘le Prix de Photographie Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière - Academie des Beaux Arts’ for her documentary on the white minority in South Africa, ‘Les Blancs Africains.’
