It has been more than a month since our last auction took place. Thanks to the confidence and trust of our consignors in our abilities, the auction featured a wonderfully diverse selection, which once again generated some surprisingly good results.

The selection of works by Bart van der Leck from the artist’s estate, achieved very good results. For instance, the lithographs Woman with cow and Still life with fruits sold for €4.926 and €3.889, the famous glazed earthenware tiles of a bird and a goat sold for €4.408 and €3.889 respectively, and the unfinished terracotta vase fetched a very high price of €20.220 (estimate: €2,000 - 3,000).

Works by other modernists were also in demand. For example, Jan Sluijters' painting Flower still life with marguerites from c. 1920 was sold for €19.443 and the two intimate watercolours Street scene in Avignon and Reclining nude were sold for €6,331 and €8,864 respectively. The small painting Igor and his toys (c. 1927-1928) by Else Berg attracted a lot of interest, reaching a price of €12.662. Furthermore, the 1941 ‘druksel’ Koppenserie 9 by Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman was sold for €14.259. The result of an early painting by Karel Appel, Portrait of a Farmer from 1944 also came as  a big surprise when the piece was finally sold for €31.109 after an extensive bidding war online.

From the Post-war works, Key Hiraga's intriguing 1967 painting sold for €16.461, Raymond Pettibon's vibrant work on paper for €15.195, Jan Commandeur’s and Jeroen Henneman's large paintings for €7,130 and €8.426, Composition au fragment rouge from 1980 by Albert Bitran for €10.370, Han Janssen's colourful landscape Summer for the extraordinary price of €9.722, Geer van Velde's abstract composition for €22.036 and the 1975 painting Shakti I by Josef Ongenae for €10.370. Furthermore, as we also saw in our previous auctions, there were many bidders for the Groningen landscapes by Jannes de Vries, eventually selling for €19.443 and €17.727.

Within the bags selection, pieces from the houses Hermès and Chanel reached the highest prices. The Hermès Kelly 35 bags from 2000 and 2001 sold for €10.370 and €8.426, a Chanel Single Flap Bag from 1996-1997 for €3.111 and a Chanel Single Classic Flap Bag from 1997-1999 for €2.852. Of the jewellery, the signed pieces were most popular.
