Auction results NRC Art, Jewellery, Bags & Silver
Adams is delighted to share that our recent auction was a wonderful success! A big thank-you to all our consignors and buyers for your trust and enthusiastic participation. We would love to highlight a few standout results from our recent sale.
First of all, the beautiful painting Lavoir on the Market Square, South France (1952) by Wim Oepts broke the auction record set in 2007. With a result of €63.310, it is now the most valuable work by the artist ever sold at auction. His smaller painting Drie vrouwen in het zwart, Frankrijk (1962) also achieved a very strong result, selling for €16.461. Another auction record was reached for Coloquintes by the French artist Pierre Boncompain. With a sale price of €15.555, this is the highest auction result for a work on paper by the Frenchman.
During the viewing days, there was already considerable interest in the five paintings by Henk Helmantel, which translated into high results during the auction. Stilleven met Vermeerbrood sold for €63.310, making it his second best-selling work ever on the auction market. Stilleven met citroenen sold for €30.389, Stilleven met kistjes for €16.851, Druiventros for €28.288, and for the smallest painting, Rembrandtschelp, the hammer eventually came down at €12.314.
These were not the only works to exceed their estimates. The unique druksel Zuidlaarder paardenmarkt by Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman was sold after a long bidding battle for €40.519, more than three times the low estimate. The intimate Selfportret in Pregnancy (22 x 13 cm) by Marlene Dumas found a new owner for €12.962, while a Landscape with Wheat Sheaves by Johan Dijkstra sold for €25.924. Furthermore, the small Still Life with Red Fruits and a Bottle by Suze Robertson sold for €14.259 (eleven times the low estimate), the post-impressionist landscape La Gargilesse (Rue de Printemps) by Léon Detroy for €7.130, the oil painting Das Blatt by Armando for €9.074, Corneille’s La table au chat from 1970 for €11.018, and the gouache Zulma daalde de trap af by Roger Raveel for the very strong result of €14.259. The auction market for JCJ Vanderheyden, whose work was well-represented in our auction, also remains solid; Sky Bow from 2003–2004 achieved €7.598 and a Checkerboard painting from 2010 sold for €9.497. There was considerable interest in the works from the estate of Henk van Os, all 25 lots found a happy new owner.
The Jewellery, Bags & Silver session was also a success. All silver pieces sold, with the pair of Dutch silver three-armed candelabras achieving a price of €3.887. As for jewellery, there was once again great interest in the pieces by Anneke Schat. Her gold brooch with tourmaline was knocked down for €5.704, the gold ear clips for €5.445, a gold ring for €2.463, and the gold ring with watermelon tourmaline for €2.463. Antique pieces and works by other designers also attracted considerable attention. An antique diamond ring sold for €7.500, a gold ring attributed to George Lenfant fetched €4.408, a gold retro necklace went for €3.889, a pair of diamond and pearl earrings by H. Stern strongly exceeded their estimate with a result of €3.371, and the Le baiser du dragon necklace by Cartier was sold for €2.852. Among the luxury handbags, the greatest interest was for the Chanel pieces. A Classic Flap Bag realised €2.074, a Full Flap Bag from the 1970s €1.297, and a Flap Shoulder Bag from the period 1960–1980 €1.167.
With much enthusiasm we look forward to our next auction, NRC Art below €5.000, on 9 March 2026. For this auction we are looking for art and photographs of high, collectable quality. Consignments for this auction are welcome until the end of January.
