De gil na morgen (1958) – Leaf through a highlight from our past auction ‘Full Disclosure: The Art and Life (and Loves) of Jan Cremer’
Description: CREMER, Jan. De gil na morgen. ‘n bundel litho’s met tekst van Jan Cremer. . Orig. stapled wrappers with 21 original gouaches on paper. With hand painted title, 2 poems and a colophon. Dated ‘December 58’. 32 pp.
Very first book by Jan Cremer, a completely handmade artist’s book. Overwhelming production by the 18-year-old painter, more than five years before he changed Dutch culture with the publication of ‘Ik Jan Cremer’ (1964). Gouaches as models for lithographs. Good condition. (Two pages cut out, folded edges). Colophon says: “Numbered copy “0”, printed by hand on the press of Livinus v/d B”. In fact the book was never produced, the lithographs were never made, the only remains of the whole project is this unique artist’s book, showing the first outburst of Cremer’s combined forces of visual and literary talent.
